Faculty, professional support staff, administrators, and librarians from all SUNY campuses, including state-operated, statutory, and community colleges are eligible to submit abstracts and to receive FACT scholarships to attend this conference.

This year, individuals from outside the SUNY System are welcome to submit proposals but will not be eligible to receive FACT scholarships.

New Partners/New Possibilities

Implementing instructional technologies for higher education develops exciting new possibilities for creative collaborations. Technology provides new opportunities for cooperation in the traditional classroom as well as for distance learning. These include student-student, student-faculty, and faculty-faculty communications but also extend to the cooperation of different departments and different campuses. The format of these interactions ranges from face-to-face through synchronous or asynchronous electronic communications.

In addition, technology is encouraging academic institutions to develop innovative partnerships with other levels of education, with professional organizations, and with commercial enterprises. Some of these, especially commercial partnerships, may appear to be compromising but it is clearly important to explore these options. In the coming decade, colleges may find themselves working closely with a broad range of nontraditional partners, including software, telecommunications, publications, and media providers. The goal of this Conference on Instructional Technologies is to encourage SUNY professionals to report on their efforts to explore these new options as well as to offer a forum for discussing new possibilities that can expand the accessibility and quality of our institutions.

Considering this year's theme, proposals should address one or more of the following:
    Process (development and planning)

    Collaboration: (examples)
    • in the institution
    • in the classroom
    • other SUNY institutions
    • outside institutions
    • outside agencies
    • textbook publishers & CD's
    • software
    • course/management
    • granting agencies
    • local high schools
    • local community agencies
    • distance learning

    Developing Non-Traditional Partners

    Leadership (campus vision)

    Assessment

    Creativity

    Pedagogy

    Implementation

Presenters should encourage interaction and discussion among participants. In presentations involving specific software programs or technological applications, a hands-on approach for the audience should be considered.

    Scholarships

The primary author of each accepted academic paper and poster session is awarded a presenter scholarship. Primary presenters for each accepted demonstration session, panel, and conference workshop are awarded presenter scholarships. The presenter scholarship covers registration, meals, and up to two nights lodging at the University at Buffalo campus. Presenters are responsible for their own travel expenses. Co-authors not eligible for a presenter scholarship should plan to apply for a general conference scholarship, which will be announced in February 2000. Members of the SUNY Training Center who do not receive a general conference scholarship can use their training points, if available.

    Review of Abstracts

A committee of SUNY faculty and professionals selected by the CIT 2000 Planning Committee referees abstracts. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is December 21, 1999. All final selections are made by January 21, 2000. All authors are notified by January 28, 2000.

    Submission of Abstracts

This year you will be able to submit abstracts on-line at http://www.cit.suny.edu .

Or you may submit abstracts via e-mail to the CIT Planning Committee with a subject of 'CIT 2000 Abstract Submission' at cit@tc.suny.edu

    Proceedings

If your abstract is accepted, you must submit a full paper or description of your session for publication in the CIT 2000 Proceedings booklet, which will be distributed at the conference and more widely thereafter in electronic form. The deadline for submission of the final version of accepted academic papers, panels, demonstrations, poster sessions and conference workshops for publication in the conference proceedings is March 3, 2000.

    Presentation Formats

We seek five presentation formats. When possible, the CIT 2000 Planning Committee will honor the presenter's desired format; however, the committee will make final decisions about format to enhance the value of the conference.

    Academic Papers
Paper presentations are 20 minutes. Q & A and handouts are strongly encouraged.

    Demonstrations
These sessions are 75 minutes. Presenters demonstrate or discuss innovative classroom uses of technology or works in progress. Technology demonstrations, hand-on activities, and audience participation are highly encouraged.

    Panels
Panels are 75 minutes and consist of a coordinated presentation of related papers, demonstrations, and/or discussions by three or more people on a common theme. A panel should include a coordinator who submits an abstract describing the common theme and listing the individual presenters and their topics. Use of supporting technology and audience participation is encouraged.

    Poster (Technology Showcase)
Poster sessions are exhibited during one evening session (for approximately 2 hours). Presenters are available at individual stations for demonstrations, displays, and/or discussions with conference attendees. Traditional posters and handouts may be used, but exhibitors are encouraged to demonstrate uses of technology in instruction.

    Conference Workshops
Conference workshops are half-day formats and include the participation of a limited number of attendees in learning activities designed to develop their expertise in a specific area. Hands-on activities are highly encouraged.
